About Me

Hi!

Thanks for choosing to read my blog!

I am from the UK. I grew up in the stunning North York Moors National Park. I guess it was probably inevitable that I then fell in love with the wild places of the world. There is something about wide open spaces and mountains and the sea that a city simply cannot compete with.

I also love people, and am at my happiest in a beautiful place with people I love. A lot of my most precious memories centre around campfires on lakesides or picnics on a moorland hill.

When I was 18 I lived in the Philippines for a few months, volunteering with Signpost International. My experience there no doubt changed the direction of my life. I realised that we are globally interdependent, both on each other and our world. It was soon after I returned to the UK that I decided not to fly again.

I have since had a varied work life. Among other things, I have worked as a Waitress, Youth Worker and Agricultural Consultant Assistant. I studied Youth Work and Theology. Last year I trained as a Climbing Instructor (SPA) and I am currently studying journalism with the British College of Journalism.

I have lived for brief stints in a yurt and a teepee, both in the UK, both over the summer months whilst holding down a conventional type office job. I have also cycled from the UK to Turkey and wrote a blog about that journey here.

Although I possess no particular talents I love learning new things. As such, I have a vast and eclectic mix of interests. I love rock climbing and surfing, wild swimming and wild camping, mountain biking, walking and skiing occasionally. I am also partial to a bit of life drawing or knitting, and I love losing myself in a good book. I suffer from a desire to do everything.

People sometimes tease me for always smiling. In fact, this is not true but I do try to live my life enjoying every moment possible. After all, you don’t know what the future holds or when you will be able to enjoy it again.

Thanks for reading and I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

Lou 🙂
